Yummy Chocolate Truffles

Easter is chocolate time. Here is the recipe for the real Belgian Chocolate Truffles that my mother used to make for us. Good for children and adults alike. Children love making them. Enjoy!

Greek spinach pie-Spanakopita

Authentic Greek recipe that my - and other kids - fall upon when they see it.  I don't make it quite as well as my Greek friend, but it's still pretty good.by Maggiet

Magic soup

This is a double soup based on a recipe in Chez Panisse Cooking.  The colours are great, the taste is clean and bright and unadulterated. And it appeals to children. By Maggie T

January is Kid΄s Month

We have four children of our own and that sometimes means creating four different versions of a meal to make sure each one of them eats properly. Parents across the western world must be faced with the problems we face every day trying to ensure that our children not only eat their fill but also eat wisely and learn about food. January seemed like a good time to focus on children and eating, not least because it's a time when we adults are especially conscious of what we're eating, so welcome to a month of articles and views on children eating well.

Diet Treats - Biscuits for the Kids or The Weight Watcher

It may sound like an over-elaborate way of providing the children with sweet treats - what's wrong with buying chocolate (nothing) - but it can be fun to prepare little mixture of soaked oats, date, almonds, flax seeds and maple syrup.
A healthy raw food recipe

When the weather isn't great and you haver time on your hands, these biscuits can be a pleasant treat for children and dieters alike.

The biscuits rely on a little maple syrup and a couple of dates for sweetness. The best way to cook or bake is to rely as little as possible on high powered juicers, whiskers, blenders etc . In this recipe you will need a coffee grinder.

Using Kids' Preferences to Help Them Eat Better

Irish research for the Task Force on Obesity showed (2005) that about 95% of food advertising is spent on promoting food that would fairly be classified as unhealthy if consumed in anything other than extreme moderation. Most of it is aimed at children.

American research showed that the way junk is advertised to children plays on their naivety. Let's look briefly at that research.

Taking on Junk Food

I read about Veggie U a while back. It's an Ohio based organisation and its main aim is to get children thinking vegetable instead of burger, carrot not crisp. Interesting too that Veggie U is sponsored by Birds' Eye, one of the world's largest processors of frozen veg (and frozen is OK).

Birds' Eye have also been known to make a few bucks out of selling fish fingers that are heavy on breadcrumbs but we can forgive. Veggie U is a great idea. What exactly do they do?

Ketchup, Oh Naturelle!

We keep looking for ways to get the kids eating better and funny, if we go to a bit more trouble for ourselves we can help them out. The first time we made ketchup at home was for guests - we used it as a barbecue sauce. Believe it or not it is extremely tasty, very nutritious, completely raw and no harm at all to your diet.
