The Core Diet |

The moderately affluent westerner's diet.... We eat out a lot (which means the Italian, for pizza, the Vietnamese, noodles, a Greek occasionally (plenty of variety there anyway), an Indian, rice and breads, and when we eat in? Pasta, pizza and wine.
My Diet Friends is run by people who have eaten this way. Average, moderately affluent people. A western diet has made us ugly. Not only ugly but big contributors to a crisis in agriculture and energy.
When we think of ugly by we mean ugly by our own standards. That is a much harsher judgment than anything other people can aim at you.
On the outside we might be getting heavier but on the inside we are getting sick, sicker and sicker.
At the same time our dietes are causing a crisis around the world. Western food is now the biggest consumer of petrochemicals out there. A perfect diet would serve your weight and health and your growing concern for the world around you.
Our bad diets cause numerous personal problems. If you're young the list of problems bad diet brings will include mostly psychological issues:
Low self esteem, occasional off-days, compulsive eating habits after diets, uncertainty over boyfriends/girlfriends, physical embarrassment, fatigue, and even hyperactivity
If you're older that list starts to take on a more clinical nature:
Depression, indigestion, bloating and irritable bowel, gastritis, diabetes, high blood pressure, raised cholesterol, chronic fatigue
When ill-effects are a consequence of food there's hardly anywhere to turn for comfort.
Here at My Diet Friends we have some ideas about how to resolve weight and health problems and coincidentally they take less from the natural world than our curent eating patterns do.
We're not doctors. We're able to convey our experiences. But we're equally keen to point people in other directions. There are links here to many diets. Our own experiences might help, though,so we're going to set them out in this section.
We're calling this The Core Diet because we believe the best way to diet is to learn a core set of skills. Those skills include: empowerment, understanding taste better so that you can enjoy a wider range of foods, learning how to cook a core set of meals that can help rescue your diet, re-equipping your kitchen, learning to listen to your body, developing core sets of exercise principles, and eating well without marginalising yourself around friends because of your weird or wacky diet.
We also call it the Core Diet because you can deploy those ideas while you're following a GI or GL diet, South Beach or many more diets. The Core Diet is a place to come back to and a reference point.
