Web Food Shows

The web is moving towards becoming much more like a series of television channels and one of its leading areas of content is food. There's a few web-TV food channels out there so I though I'd review them.

By the way if you want to do something similar - if there's an area of the web or a book or magazine that deserves the attention of other visitors - write about it and post it here. Generally speaking it's best to write direct to the site rather than writing in Word and then pasting here. Word inserts code that messes up web pages. Check the right hand column and you'll find Post a New Article - that's the link for you to contribute to the site. My Diet Friends is a contributory site - please post an article!

Taste TV is one of those channels that tends to show programmes you'd normally associate with expensive restaurant cuisine. They do have a vegetarian and seafood channel though. You can find it by clicking here.

The number of programmes is limited as yet. Some of the dishes are simple. And because it's video you get a chef taking you through all the steps - and of course you can replay instantly.

These dishes are often the familiar ones - crab and avocado salad, for example. But it's no bad thing to remind yourself how to do it nicely.

Chow is a similar site but with more of an emphasis on the big name chefs. Sites like this seem a bit embarrassed to label one type of food healthy and others not. Or to tackle the issue of what puts weight on people. I think they do tackle it but in ways that are not obvious. Chow, for example, has some of the better vegetarian recipes that I've seen recently but makes no real virtue of it. See this eggplant recipe is an example.

Finally this smaller site run by two Italian food enthusiasts is well worth a look though the dependence on pasta and ravioli means dieters beware.
